About
I'm Bobby Mathias, a production designer and lighting director based in Denver, Colorado. For over twenty years I've designed and executed live concert productions at every scale — from intimate theaters to sold out arenas and major festivals.
I came to design from the inside out. Starting as a technician, programmer, and touring operator, I built a deep understanding of how shows actually work before ever putting a concept on paper. That foundation shapes everything about my process — balancing creative ambition with real world practicality, designing systems that are as executable as they are beautiful.
My process begins with the music. Before mood boards or references, I listen — trying to feel the world a sound wants to inhabit on stage. From that feeling I build outward, thinking simultaneously about atmosphere and logistics, form and function, the artist's vision and the crew that brings it to life every night.
At the center of it all is the audience. I got into live music as a fan first, traveling the country going to shows long before I ever worked one. That perspective never left me. I design for the memory — the feeling someone carries home at 1am and wakes up with the next morning. The image that stays with them years later when that night comes back.

2015 – Present
Developed and directed the full visual identity across multiple touring cycles, most recently the Crooner & Cowboy U.S. amphitheater tour — a cinematic homage to mid-century Americana. Oversaw creative direction, set and lighting design, camera integration, and color story across a 40’ upstage LED wall and live IMAG system.

Programmed and operated lighting systems for the band’s North American, Europeans and Australian tours, emphasizing organic texture and evolving color palettes inspired by analog film and landscape photography.

Created a touring visual environment built around naturalistic light and compositional balance, translating the band’s layered harmonics into visual form.
Maggie Rogers
Designer / Programmer / Operator · 2016
Crafted a minimalist yet emotive lighting design for Rogers’ first headline tour, establishing her early live visual identity.
